STOCK TAKE: FORMIL SLUMPED
2020
ADHESIVE VINYL PRINT
5m x 3m
Throughout the working of STOCK TAKE, the assets have taken on characters. There have been some prominent ones I keep returning to. Formil is one of those examples, it is such a mundane object, a Lidl non-bio laundry powder. Once animated and warped it embodied personality.
The box shape lends really well to being animated in this way as it totally transforms the strong lines of the form. Equally the text is really fun and playful once warped.
Once edited, Formil took on personality and grandeur and immediately required being shown on a larger scale.
In previous works I have been interested in flat materials such a paper taking on human-like actions; specifically the slump.
STOCK TAKE: FORMIL SLUMPED presents an everyday domestic object as a large presence with characterful action.
It will be stuck relatively evenly on wall and floor.
STOCK TAKE: FORMIL SLUMPED is a large vinyl print of a warped box of Formil non-bio laundry detergent. The vinyl is cut out and stuck to both wall and floor in a slumped position.
It will be large and confronting when you enter the gallery space. The vinyl will be glossy like the coating on the original box of Formil.
